Livermore Valley Wine Country
A region rich in fertile soil and local history, the Livermore Valley boasts a time-honored tradition of winemaking that stems from the arrival of Spanish missionaries in the 1760’s. The valley’s namesake, Robert Livermore, planted the first commercial vines in 1840, establishing a flourishing wine industry that would soon earn a worldwide reputation. Today there are 5,000 acres of hearty vineyards and more than 40 thriving wineries in Livermore Valley, a few of which have been passed down through the generations since the late 1800’s, including Wente Vineyards, the country’s oldest single family-operated winery, and Concannon Vineyard, which boasts America’s first Petite Sirah.
One of the best perks of buying a home in Livermore Valley and living among these legendary vines (besides the unlimited wine tasting) is that all the Livermore Wineries are wonderful gathering places, great for getting together with friends and family within the community. Several wineries boast delectable restaurants, quaint patios, and lush picnic areas, as well as music, entertainment, and event spaces. Wente Vineyards is even home to a full-scale concert venue that has welcomed such internationally acclaimed performers as Crosby, Stills & Nash, Bonnie Raitt, and The Moody Blues.
